Harold Mowery Jr

Harold Mowery, Jr., 89, of Salisbury, passed away at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center on October 23, 2023. Harold was born in Salisbury, North Carolina on August 8, 1934, to Harold Mowery, Sr. and Rose Wiley Mowery. He graduated from Boyden High School in 1952, and he married Margaret Rose Wagoner in 1957. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Jackson, NC, from 1957 to 1963, and graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Harold worked as a project manager for Wagoner Construction Company, Inc. for most of his career, building for the commercial, industrial, and hospitality industries in multiple states. He served as a Director for Home Savings and Loan Association, and as a Director for Omni Capital Group. He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, on church council, and on numerous committees including the property committee, personnel committee, and others. Harold enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and traveling. He enjoyed spending time at the beach and at home with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved working in his shop, using his creativity and inventiveness for numerous projects. He is preceded in death by sisters Pauline Mowery and Dorothy Smith, both of Salisbury. Harold’s legacy lives on through his family: his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Peggy) Wagoner Mowery, four sons, Mark (Pam) of Blairsville, Georgia, Ken (Carolyn) of Salisbury, NC, Lloyd (Betsy) of Salisbury, NC, and Paul (Susan) of Oak Ridge, NC, twelve grandchildren, Alex Mowery (Ammie), Will Mowery (fiancée Hannah Jabusch), Josh Mowery (Sisy), Evan Mowery, Trent Mowery, Luke Mowery (Cara), Daniel Mowery (Alyssa), Joseph Mowery (Miranda), Kathleen Mowery Adams (Camden), Skye Mowery, Taylor Mowery Davis (Kevin), Autumn Mowery, and two great-grandchildren, Crocker Mowery and Elowyn Mowery. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Hardister and Betty Campbell, both of Salisbury, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 West Innes Street, Salisbury, NC, at 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 18, 2023. A visitation will follow in the fellowship hall at the church.
