Mr. Harold "Herky" Harris

Harold “Herky” Harris of Spencer, NC went to be with the Lord on Wednesday March 23, 2016. Born April 2, 1935 in Spencer, NC he was the son of the late Walter Ray Harris and Gladys Smith Harris. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all who met him. He loved the Lord and his church family from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury where he worked as a teller and usher. He was baptized early in his youth as a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer, NC. He was a member of the Boy Scout troop and achieved the Eagle Scout award. Herky was employed by the City of Charlotte for 35 years in the water department as a chemist and eventually Chief Chemist of the waste water division. He was in the US Army for 3 years, stationed at Ft Lewis in Tacoma, WA. He loved animals and his cat Callie was rescued with the helpful people of Faithful Friends Rescue of Salisbury. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife and mother of his children, Ann G. Harris of Charlotte and his son, Todd Alan Harris of Atlanta, GA. He was also preceded in death by his only sister, Jean Harris Hamilton and brother in law, Nick Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of 15 years Pat; son, Mark Harris, daughter in law, Marcia and grandson, Gabriel Ray Harris of Iron Station, NC; daughter, Stacey Harris Wilson, who was Daddy’s little girl, and son in law, Chuck Wilson of Blythewood, SC. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and a special brother in law, Harry Garwood who has been close since they married a couple of sisters back in the 50’s. Visitation will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 from 6-8PM at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2PM Monday, March 28, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Oakdale Baptist Church cemetery.
