Harold D. Hughes

Pastor Harold D. Hughes of Salisbury, formerly of Andrews, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 3, 2012 at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He was born August 7, 1930 in Cherokee County to the late John Lee and Zula Byrd Hughes. Pastor Hughes was the Pastor of Sherrills Ford Road Baptist Church in Salisbury since 1987. He was a bi-vocational pastor. Harold was also the General Manager for Aaron Chevrolet and Byerly Chevrolet for many years. He served as pastor in churches in Franklin, Sylva and Spencer North Carolina and served as Moderator for the Baptist Association. Mr. Hughes was past Master of Fulton Lodge #99 and was a huge Atlanta Braves and NASCAR fan. He will be greatly missed by his friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 65 years Alene Anderson Hughes on November 29, 2010; a son Harold D. ”Danny” Hughes, Jr. on May 1, 2011; four sisters Ethel Truett, Grace Bettis, Catherine Crisp and Louise Hughes; five brothers Arvil, Verlin, Frank, George and JL Hughes. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Shirley Fisher (John); sons Randy Hughes and Philip Hughes all of Salisbury; daughter-in-law Linda Hughes; grandchildren Angel Deal, Michael Hughes, Sr. (Sabrena), Jordan Hughes, Jaylea Hughes, Chris Hughes, Eddie Fuller, all of Salisbury, Terri Smith (Craig) of Lexington, Tricia Miller (Barry) of Columbia, SC, Justin Hughes of Stillwater, OK; great-grandchildren Brandon Hughes, Michael Hughes, Jr., Caleb Hughes, Stephen Hughes, all of Salisbury, Logan Smith of Lexington, Ricky Miller of Columbia, SC; brother Paul Hughes of Marble; special niece Terry Lunsford and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: 11-12:30 Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Sherrills Ford Baptist Church. At other times the family will be at the residence. Service: 12:30 PM Wednesday at Sherrills Ford Baptist Church conducted by Pastor John D. O’Cain, Jr. Interment will follow at Sherrills Ford Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial may be made to Sherrills Ford Baptist Church, 6455 Sherrills Ford Rd., Salisbury, NC 28147. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Rowan Regional Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care of Mr. Hughes.
