Hannah Shaud Barton

Hannah Shaud Barton of Delray Beach, FL, died Monday, June 8, 2009 in Alexandria LA. Mrs. Barton was born April 9, 1921 in Philadelphia PA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Shaud and Eva Eckhart and sister of Eve Weems and the late Gertrude Kenna. Due to the fact that both of her parents died when she was very young, she and her sisters were raised by their Aunt Elizabeth “Bess” Eckhart and Uncle Calvin Shaud in Atlantic City, N.J. along with her cousins, Al Shaud, Leona Shaud, Calvin Shaud Jr., Pierce Shaud, Alice Greeley, Ann Damico and Marilyn Fillmore. Hannah worked in San Francisco CA, during World War II, and in New York City for the Bell Telephone Co. Hannah also worked in New York as a Secretary and as an Executive Waitress for the Morgan Guarantee Trust Co. After they retired they moved to Salisbury, NC where she worked as a volunteer for Rowan Memorial Hospital. Showing an affinity for that type of work, she was offered a job working for the Hospital in Volunteer Services from which she eventually retired. She also, along with her husband, volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels for over 20 years. Hannah’s greatest calling in life however, was the selfless giving of her love, understanding, and her wisdom. These gifts she generously showered on her family, her son-in-law and daughter-in-law, friends as well as strangers in need. One of Hannah’s greatest joys in life was her love of Opera, Broadway Musicals and Classical Music. When her husband fell ill they moved to Florida, and then to Salisbury, MD where he died in March of 2008. Hannah traveled to Alexandria, LA with her daughter and son-in-law where she was cared for until the Lord called her home. Children Christine Quinn (Bill) and Bill P. Barton (Debbie Bogle): grandchildren Shawn Barton, Christopher Haggerty, Heather Echagarrua and Adam Barton; as well as (18) great grandchildren who will remember her with love as long as they live. Visitation: The family will see friends from 6 – 9 PM. Thursday evening at Summersett Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, June 12 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at the U.S. National Cemetery in Salisbury NC.
