Effie Kluttz Vellines

Effie Kluttz Vellines. 97, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Effie was born November 13, 1926 in Rowan County to the late Luther Frank Kluttz, Sr. and Esther Cauble Kluttz. At a very young age she survived a flood while visiting family in Pennsylvania. She was a 1944 graduate of Granite Quarry High School. In 1946 she married James W. Vellines who preceded her in death in 2009 after 63 years of marriage. She was the oldest member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Unit 342. She and her husband enjoyed going to various dances. Effie was a lifetime member of Union Lutheran Church; lifetime member of the Auxiliary of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, presented by the Anna Petrea Circle and the Good Timers Senior Group. Most of all she loved her family and attending her church. Effie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, A homemaker, she enjoyed keeping her home, yard and flowers pristine. Her delicious cooking and baking, especially her homemade chocolate pie and coconut cream cake, made her home a special place to be. In addition to her parents and husband, sisters, Kathleen Kluttz, Virginia K. Elium, Margaret K. Peeler, Norma K. Safrit and brothers, Ralph Kluttz, Everett Kluttz and Luther Frank Kluttz, Jr. preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Wayne (Pam) Vellines, Ronald (Janie) Vellines of Salisbury; daughter, Lana (Eric) Brown of Mooresville; four grandchildren, Janice (Tommy) Goodman, Matthew (Ashlyn) Vellines of Salisbury, Todd (Alicia) Holshouser and Ronald Brown of Mooresville; four great-grandchildren, Justin (Gracie Lewis) Goodman, Tyler (Jade Johnson) Goodman of Salisbury, Grace (Blake Moore) Holshouser and Gabe Holshouser of Mooresville; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to daughter-in-law Janie Vellines who lovingly cared for her along with her children; and caregivers, Dawn Rangel, Janet Durham, and Sara Jarvis. Thanks also to the nursing staff of Novant Health Hospice. The family will receive friends 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Saturday (July 20) at Union Lutheran Church Dutch Meeting Hall. The funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday at Union Lutheran Church with Rev. Heidi Punt, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
