Mrs Dorothy Martin Gudger

Mrs. Dorothy Martin Gudger, 89, of Salisbury, NC passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, NC. Born October 16, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Ella Rosa Martin and Bonner Elijah Martin of Cooleemee, NC. Mrs. Gudger was educated in Rowan County and graduated from Boyden High School in 1941 at the age of 16. Dot was a member of Neel Road Baptist Church and she also attended North Main Baptist and Stallings Memorial Baptist in her younger years. Dot spent her early years working at Woolworths, Kress and Malone’s Drugstore in downtown Salisbury a total of 14 years. She moved on to spend 15 years at Pilot Insurance Co., worked 31 years a Cannon Mills and her last 17 plus years at Wilco Travel Plaza. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bub” Elmore Gudger (1942-1990); brothers, Bonner E. Martin, Jr. and John Ruben Martin; three sisters, Annie Lee Hess, Addie Mae Hess, and Grace Hess. She is survived by her only son, Robert Wayne Gudger and his wife Rosemary of Pembroke Pines, FL; “daughter” Judy Rochelle of Salisbury; granddaughters, Stephanie G. Jacobs (Chris) of Alparetta, GA, Christine G. Boudolf (David) of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law Betty Martin of Salisbury and brother-in-law Albert H. “Tuck” Gudger of Asheville, NC. She was affectionately known as “Gigi” by her four great-grandchildren, Caroline and Ella Jacobs; as well as, Noah and Molly Boudolf of Charleston, SC. The family would like to thank Dr. Amy Wilson and Dr. Nisa Patel for their very special care and concern for her health; a very special thank you to her wonderful “daughter-friend”, Frances Ballard for all her love and care in last few years of Dot’s life. The family would also like to thank Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House; their love and care in her last few months was a true gift to her and her family. A celebration of her 89 years of life will be 1 PM Thursday (Feb. 19) at Summersett Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jerry Wilkes officiating. Memorials may be made to Glenn A.
