Cora R. Kirkman

Cora R. Kirkman, of Salisbury, NC passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Kirkman was born in Brazil on June 7, 1923, and was the daughter of the late John and Alda Soares Ribeiro. She was educated in Catholic schools in Rio de Janeiro and graduated with a diploma in dress design. She worked in dress design in Rio, and later in Washington, DC. Mrs. Kirkman came to the United States in 1957 and lived and worked in Washington, DC until she married her beloved husband, Carl (Mickey) Kirkman, on December 1, 1959 in Washington DC. They were married for 45 years until August 24, 2002 when Mr. Kirkman passed away in Myrtle Beach, SC where they were then living. Mr. Kirkman worked for the Southern Railway for 48 years. The couple enjoyed travelling, and traveled extensively in North and South America, Europe and Scandinavia. Mrs. Kirkman became an American citizen on June 7, 1963 in Greensboro, NC. The Kirkmans lived in Rowan County for a number of years during their marriage, and Mrs. Kirkman was very active in the community. She worked as a volunteer at the VA hospital, for the Red Cross, taught music lessons to intellectually disabled children, volunteered in various nursing homes, and was active with the Rose and Humane Societies. Mrs. Kirkman was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary at the parish. She leaves no surviving relatives. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday (August 29) at 2 PM at Rowan Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
