Carol Hanes Rabon

Carol Hanes Rabon, 90, formerly of Salisbury, passed away October 30, 2024 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Greensboro. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Rabon. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Rabon Sawyer and husband Jonathan; son, Robert Gregory Rabon and wife Tracy; and grandson, Matthew Rabon. She is also survived by her brother, David Hanes and wife Loretta; sister-in-law, Jeanne Hanes as well as beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Carol is a native of Lexington, North Carolina. She is a graduate of Catawba College with a degree in Elementary Education and received her Master’s Degree from A&T University in Greensboro. Carol taught in the Davidson County school system for 30 years and was especially proud of the last 12 years of her career focused on educating children with learning disabilities. She served as President of her local chapter of the North Carolina Association of Educators and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa honorary organization of women educators. Carol retired to Kure Beach, NC to enjoy beach life with Bob. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Carolina Beach, where she served as a Stephens Minister, several terms as President of the United Methodist Women and sang in the choir for many years. An active community volunteer, Carol donated her time to the Federal Point Help Center, and the Fort Fisher Aquarium. She faithfully taught water aerobics classes in her neighborhood pool for over 15 years. Carol had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Carol had many leisure interests including gardening, reading and puzzles of all types, oil painting, crafts, social groups (Looney Ladies) and her affection for dogs, particularly Scotties and Westies. Funeral service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30-11am in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park cemetery, Salisbury, NC. Memorial contributions may be made to Federal Point Help Center, 7 N.
