Carl E. Bowers

Carl Edward Bowers, 70 of Woodleaf died Wednesday, December 09, 2009 at his home. Born August 26, 1939 in Rowan County, he was the son of Helen Sells Bowers of Salisbury and the late Ernest Lee Bowers. He was educated in the Salisbury schools and graduated from North Rowan High School. He served in the National Guard. Mr. Bowers was employed for National Starch before retiring and was a Flag Car Driver for Big T’s Modular Home Escort Service. He was a life long member of Calvary Baptist Church and was the first to be baptized in the present Baptistery. He was also a member of the Woodleaf Civitan Club and the Spencer Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Lee Bowers on August 11, 1974. Survivors include his wife, Janie Wetmore Bowers, whom he married October 3, 1969; daughters, SeLana Bowers Lipe and husband Randy, Lori B. Shue and husband Todd, Paula B. Watkins all of Salisbury, Carla B. Linker of Faith; brothers, Jimmy Lee Bowers and wife Dianne of Faith, and Kenneth Ray Bowers and wife Sherry of Thomasville; sisters, Barbara Louise Fox of Salisbury and Patricia Bowers of Rockwell: 12 grandchildren, Matthew Majors serving in Afganistan, Ryan Majors, Tiffany Majors, Michael Shue, Katie Shue, Lauren Shue, Brittany Shue, Daniel Shue, Andrew Shue, Colton Watkins, Julianna Jarvis and Hailey Linker and 1 great-grandchild, Riley Shue and family friend Cathy Carlisle. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Friday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Rick Cockerham and Rev. Bobby Seagroves, officiating. Mr. Bowers will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. The Woodleaf Civitan Club will be seated in a group. Interment will follow at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the Summersett Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the residence.
