Carl William Brown Jr

Carl William Brown, Jr., 85, of Salisbury, NC passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC after complications from surgery. Carl was born June 27, 1939 in Wabash, Indiana to the late Helen Crist Brown and Carl William Brown, Sr. He graduated from Purdue University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the Theta Tau engineering fraternity, loved sports and was an avid Purdue Boilermaker fan. Carl started his career as a project engineer at Container Corporation of America in Wabash, Indiana. After 4 years, he transferred to the Carolinas and continued his career in the textile industry. He worked for Fiber Industries (Hoechst Celanese) in Greenville, SC, and finished his career with them in Salisbury, NC. Carl worked in various roles from project engineer to engineering/maintenance group management. Carl retired after 30 years from Hoechst Celanese and continued in an international consulting role. Carl had a servant’s heart and participated in various roles in his community and church. He served as a Board Leader for the local Red Cross and acted as Chief Judge in his local voting precinct. Carl recently retired from serving at Rufty Holmes Senior Center by providing leadership through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for 17 years. Carl has been a long-time patron of the Waterworks Visual Arts Center and the Piedmont Players at the Meroney Theater. Carl was a member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury for the last 37 years. He served on the administrative board in various capacities. He took great pleasure singing in the church choir, including special occasions at Washington Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral in England. Carl had a love of cars. He was a member of the Austin Healey Club of America for 37 years. He held various positions in the local chapter and was National President for AHCA for two terms. He toured all over the USA, Canada and Nova Scotia. He once drove his Healey from the East Coast to the West Coast visiting other AHCA clubs to collect donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Brown of Salisbury, NC; son, Michael Brown (Kathryn) of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Sandra Wilson (Garrett) of Pfafftown, NC; brother, Larry Brown (Janis) of Louisville, KY and grandchildren: Matthew Brown of New York, NY, Andrew Brown of Charlotte, NC, Christopher Brown of Boston, MA; Landon Wilson and Logan Wilson of Pfafftown, NC. A memorial service will be held 11am Saturday, January 11, 2025 at First United Methodist Church of Salisbury; officiated by Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti.
