Carl "Bill" Gaskey

Carl J. ‘Bill’ Gaskey, age 88, of Salisbury passed away Sunday morning, November 18, 2012 at the VA Medical Center Liberty Hall Hospice Home in Salisbury. Mr. Gaskey was born June 15, 1924 in Rowan County, the son of the late William W. Gaskey and Roxey Mae Hess Gaskey and resided with his beloved grandmother, the late Rosie B. Hess. Bill attended Rowan County schools and was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Army Squadron V Fighter Command in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was part of New Guinea, South Philippines, and Luzon campaigns. Bill was a diesel mechanic and certified watch and clock repairman and retired in 1984 as a mechanic with the NC Department of Transportation, Equipment Unit. Bill was of the Christian faith and served his Savior for many years as a deacon of his church. He was dedicated to his faith and his family. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Rachel Eleanor Bradshaw Gaskey, a loving and devoted mother to their three daughters. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughters and sons-in-law: Kathy and John Clyburn, Patricia and Bennie Fulcher and Carla and Dwight Howell; grandchildren: Renee Fulcher, Natalie Berger, Chris Clyburn, Trisha Fulcher (Michael Culp), Ashlinn Trexler (David), Brett Howell (Michele); and great-grand-children Devan and Jensen Berger, Jaelyn Culp, Jaxon and Anaston Trexler. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marcia Bradshaw and brothers-in-law James Bradshaw and Arnold Bradshaw. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Terry Power, who provided compassionate loving care to Bill and Rachel Gaskey during the later years of their lives, and to the dedicated caregivers at the VA Liberty Hall Hospice Home for the wonderful and loving care given to Mr. Gaskey during the final weeks of his life. The respect, dignity and love shown to him were greatly appreciated by him and his family. Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Summersett Funeral Home.
