Betty Smith Corriher

Betty Ann Smith Corriher, 85, of Spencer, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, at Mocksville Senior Living after several months of declining health. Betty was born March 15, 1936 in Landis, NC. She was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin Smith and Grace Honbarger Smith. She grew up in Landis and was educated in the Landis schools. Betty had a deep love for children and chose to work with them at some of her favorite jobs, including Head Start and the Donnelly Home. She also worked for many years at Fiber Industries (Celanese). Betty was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Spencer. Her hobbies included quilting, working jigsaw puzzles, and playing with all of the children in her beloved family. Those who preceded her in death include her first husband, Earl Corriher, who passed away in 1972, and her second husband, Edward Corriher, who passed away in 2018; her sisters: Katherine Goodman, Lucille Barry, Addie Mae Everhart, Hazel Everhart, Maddie Corriher, and Brittie Corriher; and her brother, Leonard Smith. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Lewis Corriher (Ronda) of Lexington, Donald Corriher (Polly) of Salisbury, Jeannie Raiford (David) of Mint Hill, Carol Costner (Garry) of Salisbury, and Harvey Corriher (Susan) of Mocksville; her grandchildren, Amy Carrick (Tim), Kevin Corriher, Brad Corriher, Kimberly Perkins (Stuart), David Raiford (Ana), Jennifer Graves (Mark) and Sara Beth Transue (Thomas); her eight great-grandchildren, Kelli Brafford, Corbin and Camryn Perkins, Alex and Savannah Raiford, and Liam, Colonel, and Simon Transue; her step-children, Eddie Corriher, Robin Mowery (Nelson), and Michael Corriher (Amy) all of Mt. Ulla; her step-grandchildren, Erica Dumas (Dan), Travis Corriher, Brandon Corriher, Cory Lingle (Whitney), Isaac Lingle, John Corriher and Lauren Corriher; and three great-step-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Rowan Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by Reverend David Raiford. We ask that all guests please wear a mask and observe social distancing.
