Anne Myers Steele

Anne Myers Steele, 91, died on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, Salisbury, NC. Born June 9, 1934, in Huntington, W Va., Anne was the daughter of Helen Myers and Franklin Myers. She was a graduate of Huntington High School, The College of William and Mary, and the University of Pittsburgh. After graduate school, Anne taught many levels of mathematics, including junior high, high school, and collegiate. At the Yeshiva Girls School in Pittsburgh, she also taught classes in creative writing and art. Anne was a talented musician who also enjoyed creating elaborate calligraphies. She taught piano lessons, composed music, and was a church choir director and organist for over 25 years. She sang in the Mendelssohn Choir, the official choir of the Pittsburgh Symphony, as well as The Chamber Company in Jacksonville, FL. A lifelong Lutheran, Anne was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she and her husband Jim sang in the choir, delivered Meals on Wheels, and proofread the monthly Eagle’s View church newsletter. Anne and Jim’s interests included RV travel, extensive foreign travel, music (symphony, opera, ballet and musical theater), and entertaining and visiting friends all over the country. They truly cherished the many deep friendships they made over the years. She married James Alexander Steele on June 24, 1955, who predeceased her in 2015. She was also predeceased by her parents, sister Mary Catherine (David) Remer, and daughter-in-law, Myra Steele. Anne is survived by her children: Jennifer (Vince) Frisina of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Mark Steele of Chattanooga, TN, Rebecca (Michael) McKenzie of Church Hill, TN, and Laura (Stephen) Hassett of Clemmons, NC. She and Jim had ten grandchildren: David (Jessica) Frisina, Christopher Frisina (Margaret White), Jessica Frisina (Ryan Springer), Austin Steele, Megan Steele, Audrey McKenzie, Braxton McKenzie, Cameron (Eric Flora) McKenzie, Alison (James) Helms, and Monica Hassett, as well as seven great-grandchildren: Ella, Jackson, and Jesse Frisina, Josiah and Eli Whitmire, and Dagny and Rori White; and four nephews: Chris, Todd, Scott, and Drew Meadows. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St, Downtown Salisbury, at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026. The service will be livestreamed at stjohns-salisbury.org The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
