Anne Edwards Fuller

Ms. Anne Edwards Fuller, 65, of Greensboro, NC passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at home under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. Anne was born on October 25, 1948, in Spartanburg, SC to the late Sam John Edwards and Marcelle Greenway Edwards. Anne graduated from Boyden High School in Salisbury, NC in 1966. She attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) from 1966 – 1970 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She later attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) and earned her Masters of Education in Counseling. She taught English and Math for 20+ years at several different high schools across the state as well as at Salisbury Business College. Her dedication, expertise, and love of her students and peers was cherished and admired by many. She was elected to serve on the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education, serving as the Chairman of the Instruction and Curriculum Committee from 1983-1989, as Vice-Chairman of the interim school board, and as Chairman from 1990-1993. She was recognized by the board for twelve years of leadership and service to children as a board member. After leaving education, she continued her service of helping others through Human Resource work at Food Lion, Inc. She earned her Certification in Human Resources in 1995, became a Certified Employee Assistance Professional in 2000, and earned her Senior Professional Certification in Human Resources in 2001. While at Food Lion she was the Management Development Administrator in the Department of Organizational Development, Behavior Risk Manager, and Employee Assistance Program Developer and Manager. During this time she was recognized for outstanding work and leadership by Food Lion. Anne had many accomplishments and served her community in a variety of ways. She was awarded the Juanita Bryant Citizenship Award (which is a state-wide award) and Outstanding Young Woman of the Year in 1977 by the Salisbury Junior Woman’s Club. She was an appointed member of the Rowan County Personnel Commission, President of Salisbury Jr. Women’s Club, Chairman of the Rowan Partnership for Children, President of the Board of Directors at the Friendship House, member of the Rowan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Hospice Volunteer, and City-Wide PTA President. She also served in ministry as Chairman on the Council of Ministry, Personnel Committee Member, Trustee, Youth Leader, Sunday School Department Director, and choir member. Anne’s most recent membership was at Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. Anne fought a long, courageous battle with Lupus and many additional autoimmune illnesses. For over twenty years, she fought with dignity and grace, courage and optimism, always with a smile on her face. She was truly a fighter until the end and was admired by her friends and family. Preceding her in death were her father, Sam John Edwards, mother, Marcelle Greenway Edwards, and brother, Sam John Edwards, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Katharine Fuller Rhinehart and husband Gary of Tega Cay, S.C. and Carol Anne Earnhardt and husband Chuck of Greensboro, NC; sisters Jane E. Crenshaw and husband Jim of North Myrtle Beach S.C., Nancy E. Fortenbery and husband Dave of Charlotte, N.C., and sister-in-law Jenny P. Edwards of Columbia, S.C. Grandchildren Brooks and Brandon Rhinehart , Will and Natalie Earnhardt; nephews Ben Parry, Andy, John, and Sam Fortenbery; nieces Anna Jackson, Julie and Samantha Edwards; and many lifelong cherished friends are also surviving. Visitation and Services: A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, June 23, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends at the First Ministry Center, 220 North Fulton Street, Salisbury, NC 28144 following the service. The family will hold a private burial at Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery.
