Nancy Baxley McSwain

Nancy Baxley McSwain, affectionately known as “Maw Maw,” 87 of Salisbury, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Born January 11, 1937, in Salisbury, North Carolina, to the late William Kenneth and Sarah Elizabeth Shields Baxley. Nancy attended Granite Quarry High School. Nancy met Bill F. McSwain Sr. while working at Woolworths and they were married on June 20, 1953, in South Carolina. In her younger years she enjoyed working at Oestricher’s store in downtown Salisbury, before becoming a homemaker and raising her two sons, Billy McSwain Jr. and Scott McSwain. Nancy had a kind heart, gentle spirit, and loved the Lord. She was a devout Christian and longtime member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church. Nancy cared deeply for others in this community, giving her time and donating to those in need. She was happiest when all her loved ones were gathered, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her home on a Sunday afternoon, sharing a meal and quality time. Her family takes comfort in the joyful memories made and traditions that will continue. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Brenda Bachner and Elizabeth Avant; brother, William Kenneth Baxley Jr.; and nephew, Thomas Bachner. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 71 years, Bill F. McSwain Sr.; sons, Billy F. McSwain Jr. of Salisbury, NC and Scott McSwain (Renee) of High Point, NC; daughter-in-law, Terri Cameron (Don) of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Katie Messinger (Alex) of Atlanta, GA, Kristy Slade (Ty) of Rome, GA, Christian McSwain of Orlando, FL, and Sydney McSwain of Greensboro, NC; great-grandchildren, Zane and Sadie Slade, Peter and Benjamin Messinger; nephews, Brandon and Christopher Avant; and great-nephews, Patrick and Trey Bachner. The family expresses gratitude for the care given by Trinity Oaks and Hospice. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church followed by a funeral service with Pastor Larry Gilbreath officiating.
