Mary Faust Garner

Mary Brannock Faust Garner, 63, of Morgantown, WV died at 2:05 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at home with her family in St. Pete Beach, FL. Mary was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2008. Mary was born on February 15, 1946 in Salisbury, NC to parents Rev. Milton B. and Anna Mary Faust. She attended Salisbury public schools and graduated from Boyden High School in 1964. As a student at Boyden she was active in clubs, civic activities and leadership. Following high school Mary attended Elon College where she earned an Elementary Education degree. There she also met her husband Larry Benton Garner. Mary and Larry were married just after her graduation on June 15, 1968, at Second Presbyterian Church in Salisbury. She then began her career as a school teacher in Jacksonville, FL. She took an extended hiatus from teaching while raising her three children. She returned to teaching in Morgantown, WV at Second Ward Elementary, then at Cool Springs Elementary and finally at Woodburn Elementary. Her career lasted well over 20 years. She was respected and loved by her students and her peers. She taught her students to respect themselves and especially others. She was a strict teacher but cared for every student very much. Mary is survived by her mother Anna Mary Faust of High Point, NC; husband Larry Benton Garner of Morgantown, WV; son Ashley Benton Garner (Allycen) of Wilmington, NC; two daughters, Whitney Faust Garner (Torsten) of Berlin, Germany and Mary Wesley Garner of St. Petersburg, FL; brother Eric Faust (Linda) of Pollacksville, NC; sister Frances Faust Barger (Steve) of Cherry Grove, SC; sister-in-law Rita Garner Leonard of Mt. Airy, NC; seven nieces and nephews, Andrew, Bethan, James, Anna, Bradley, Lori and Amy; 12 grand nieces and nephews, Willow, Violet, River, Meg, Gus, Brianna, Spencer, William, Sam, Charlie, Lauren and Olivia. A memorial service was held at sunset in St. Pete Beach, FL on Tuesday, September 29th. Services in Salisbury, NC will be handled by Summerset Funeral Home, 704-633-2111, on Saturday October 3rd. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m. at Summersett Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Eric Faust officating. Mary will be buried at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury. Services in Morgantown, WV will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 304-292-9485, on Monday October 5th.
