Kenneth Young Miller

Kenneth Young Miller, 71, of Clemmons, formerly of Salisbury went to be with his Lord peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem. Born on December 13, 1947, he was a son of the late John Albert Miller and Isabelle Young Miller. Ken is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Valerie Crowe Miller; son, Andrew Alan Miller and wife Grete of Granville, NY and a daughter, Valerie Lynn Miller Murphy and husband Brian of Clemmons; three grandchildren, Dylan Miller, Katelyn Murphy and Greyson Murphy; brother Charles David Miller and wife Bonnie of Advance, brother-in-law, Howard Crowe and wife Linda of Albemarle. Ken loved his Lord and was an avid reader of the Bible. He was a member of the Gold Hill United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry W. Miller and John A. Miller, III. Ken loved and adored his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed hiking trails on the family farm in Davie County where he grew up. He also enjoyed playing golf and made a hole-in-one at Pudding Ridge Golf Course in Mocksville in 2005. Ken graduated from Davie High School in 1966 and was an honor graduate of N.C. State University in Raleigh, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, he also studied Engineering Management at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana and Wake Forest University. He worked at Ingersoll Rand’s Portable Air Compressor Division in Mocksville as an Engineering Consultant for the Air Solutions Group. His profession took him all over the United States and abroad including Europe, the Czech Republic and China. In addition, he was able to work with the military and government on numerous projects. Ken was granted 4 U.S. Patents for his innovative designs in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Later, he accepted a position at Doosan Infracore International in Statesville as an Engineering Consultant where he stayed until his retirement in 2014. Ken was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, International Society of Automation, American Society of Quality Control and a Senior Member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Summersett Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at Summersett Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Rennie Adcock officiating. A private burial will be held Saturday.
