Kate Ruth Carico Livengood

Mrs. Kate Ruth Carico Livengood, 91, of Salisbury, passed away on to her heavenly home on Friday, October 15, 2021 at her residence. She was surrounded by her loving family who cared for her along with caregivers and hospice. Kate was born in Galax, VA on October 4, 1930 to Lonnie C. and Blanche B. Carico. She was raised on the New River with thirteen brothers and sisters. Kate attended Baywood High School and Rowan Technical College. She was a homemaker who loved to cook, garden, can, sew and quilt. She had a great love for her entire family, who gave her the name “Nannie Kate”. She was a loving wife to Curtis for 63 years. She was a member of The Arbor United Methodist Church where she was very active in the Harry Steele Bible Class and the Friendship Club before declining in health. Sharing her mountain home with family, friends and youth groups was one of her biggest joys. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Curtis H. Livengood; son, Curtis Wayne Livengood; grandson, Todd Wayne Livengood; brothers, Mitchell, Orville, Bill, Friel and Jake Carico; sisters, Hattie Tremble, Peggy Iroler, Wanda Spurlin and Edna Lineberry. She is survived by her children, Tim Livengood (Marchel), Becky Carlton (Tim), Dale Livengood (Sharon), Eddie Livengood (Becky); grandchildren, Allen, John Curtis, Travis and Lindsay Livengood, Matt and Brent Carlton, Julie Stoots, Audrey Huss, Amber Williamson, Drake Bowers; great-grandchildren, Clay, Rena Kate, Waylon, Wyatt, Jentry, Jacob, Savanna and Jackson Livengood, Bailey Lloyd, Jake Carlton, Carter Austin and Athan Huss, Eden and Emma Kate Stoots, Everett Bowers, Faith Barton, Makaylia Williamson, Charlee Williamson and Haylee Williamson; sisters, Levon Petty, Joyce Davis, Rachel Shaw and Shirley Bryant. Special thanks to her family caregivers and hospice for their compassion and great care. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday (October 18th) at The Arbor United Methodist Church with Rev. Jaqueline Tookey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
