Mr. James Calvin Earnhardt

Mr. James “Jim” Calvin Earnhardt, 77, of Rockwell, NC passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at his residence. He was born January 4, 1938 in Rowan County, NC to the late Everett Lacy and Nettie Martha Williams Earnhardt. In addition to his parents, his daughter, Jamie Salina Wall and sister, Elizabeth Beck predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Shirley Ann Earnhardt, sister, Virginia Harrington of China Grove, NC; brother, Sam Earnhardt of Salisbury, NC; and children, Richard C. Ashe, of Asheville, NC; David Lynn Earnhardt of Rockwell, NC; and daughter Karen Creech of Chattanooga, TN. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brandon Trexler of Salisbury, NC; Jeremy James Wall of Salisbury, NC; Jessica Salina Wall of Salisbury, NC; Richard Ashe, Jr. and Dustin Ashe; great-granddaughter, Ava Trexler of Salisbury, NC; two step-grandchildren, Ames Miller of Myrtle Beach, SC and Diana Lynn Hicks of Goose Creek, SC and Freddy Wall, of Garner, NC, a fine youngster that Jim raised from infancy. As a youngster, Jim played baseball in Rowan County and later he played on a Navy Team. In 1960, he and other teammates tried out for the Los Angeles Angels. He loved baseball and followed favorite teams throughout the years for the rest of his life. Jim was in the Navy from January 1956 to December 1959. He served his tour in the Pacific and was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Yorktown. After his military service Jim worked for a life insurance company for many years. He received plaques and awards for Team Leader, Salesman of the Month, and the President’s Award. His hobby was leatherwork and he had a little shop called “Jim’s Leather”. Jim fought cancer last year and had two strokes this year. God has taken him home now, no more pain and suffering. He was a kind and gentle man and a loving husband, father, and brother. He will be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved him. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. The family will receive friends 11-12 PM Wednesday (Jan 28) at Summersett Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12 PM Wednesday in Summersett Memorial Chapel , conducted by Pastor Steve Hammon of the Rockwell Church of God. Burial will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd location with military honors. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Earnhardt family.
