Jacquelyn Privett

Jacquelyn Privett, 87, passed away after a brief illness at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. She was born to William Henry and Rose Salamone Privett on August 29, 1936 in Eastport, Long Island, NY. Jackie was a pioneer in advancing educational and vocational opportunities for a population not underserved but unserved at that time. She was one of the original seven students in the activity class started by North Fork Auxiliary Volunteers. Jackie received a trainee of the month award while employed with AHRC of Riverhead, Long Island, NY. The AHRC remains a vital and active organization to this day. Moving to North Carolina, she quickly orientated working with the ARC of North Carolina. She participated in the Special Olympics. During her golden years she enjoyed her exercise class at Rufty Holmes Senior Center. Jackie was a devoted daughter. She is credited with saving her father’s life when he choked on a peach late one night during a family vacation to Florida. Her pastimes included completing word searches, coloring, watching westerns on tv and creating ceramic artwork. She also enjoyed visiting with relatives who lived out of state. Jackies outstanding gift she leaves to her family and community is the example she set by warmly welcoming both friend and stranger with an effervescent and authentic smile. She is predeceased by her loving sister, Patricia Privett Moore, and brother-in-law Thomas B. Moore. Jackie is survived by her brothers Bill Privett (Marilyn) and Lee Privett (Margy) and several nieces and nephews. The family extends a sincere and heartfelt thank you to her many caregivers throughout the years in addition to her special nieces who provided support Margaret Fisher, Teresa Casmus, Leigh Ann Norris, and Michele Vaeth and the outreach provided by Sacred Heart Catholic School and Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, April 29,2024 at 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the Facebook Page of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Salisbury, N.C. Online condolences may be made at https://www.summersettfuneralhome.com. Catholic Daughters Court 1759 will lead a Rosary Prayer service prior to the Funeral Mass. Interment will be at Rowan Memorial Park immediately following the Mass.
