Blanche Mildred McCreary Shinn Julian

Mrs. Blanche Mildred McCreary Shinn Julian, 96, of Salisbury, NC passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at Genesis Nursing Center. Born September 18, 1916 in Fine’s Creek, NC she was the daughter of the late Minnie Greene and Wiley Henry McCreary. Mrs. Julian was educated in the Lincolnton County schools. She worked at Wool Worth’s, Cannon Mills, and was Assistant Secretary Treasurer of Rowan Mutual Insurance. She enjoyed traveling, reading, working on the farm, and shopping. Mrs. Julian was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, led a Women’s Circle, and worked with the Luther League. Mrs. Julian is preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Larkin Shinn, Jr. whom she married in 1936 and passed away in 1939; and later married, Harry Benard “Buck” Julian who passed away in 1982; brothers, Arnold, Homer, Roy, Ray, Grover, Orval McCreary; special nephew, William Henry McCreary; sisters, Emma Shipman, Gertrude Murray, Espie Beck, Elvie Keener; special niece, Wanedith Shipman Earnhardt; and step-granddaughter, Nita Julian. She is survived by her daughter, Rachel Stone of Salisbury; stepson, Bill Julian and wife Cecila of High Point, NC; sister, Margaret M. Steele of Annandale, VA; sister in law, Annie Mae McCreary of Salisbury; grandson, Dwane and wife DeDe Stone of Salisbury; granddaughters, Michelle’ Stone of Salisbury and Margot' S. Monroe and husband Wayne of Columbia, SC; great-granddaughter, Jennifer Monroe of Columbia, SC; step-great-granddaughter, Lauren R. Carlton and husband Matthew of Ferguson, NC; step-great grandson, Justin Ratledge of N. Wilkesboro; and many special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 1-2PM Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Thursday in the Summersett Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Trexler officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Cemetery Fund, 205 St. Paul’s Church Rd., Salisbury, NC 28146; Prospect Presbyterian Church, Cemetery Fund, 9425 W. NC 152, Mooresville, NC 28115; and Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144. The family would like to give special thanks to the 3rd Hall staff at Genesis Nursing Home and to Dr. Yut and his caring staff for their loving care of Mrs. Julian.
