Beulah Evangeline Smith

Beulah Evangeline Smith, 97, of Salisbury, NC formerly of Charlotte, NC passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Salisbury Center in Salisbury. Born August 17, 1920 she was a daughter of the late Alexander Wesley Smith and Carrie Godfrey Smith. She was a graduate of Berryhill High School in Charlotte and attended courses for seniors at Queens College. She retired as administrative assistant from A&P Tea Company and Providence Baptist Church. Beulah was a Christian and longtime member of Garr Memorial Church, where she was a pianist, choir member and Sunday school teacher. She participated in all phases of Christian life and activities. Music was a very special part of her life. In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s Beulah sang with her sisters, Beatrice and Elizabeth as a trio on WBT Radio. She continued her love of music for many years as a pianist at numerous churches in the Charlotte area. She tried to live her life as a “life that mattered”, with joy, friendliness, loved a good joke and always with a smile. She was one of God’s special angels. Beulah was also a past President of the Christian Business Women’s Club in Charlotte. She enjoyed history, genealogy, writing, painting, photography, stamp collecting and the arts. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters and their spouses, Paul Wesley Smith (Miriam), Reverend Charles Moody Smith (Violet), Stephen Carlisle Smith (Cleo), Mary Beatrice Burleson (Macon), Christina Elizabeth Smith, Dean Sousa Smith (Dorothy). In addition she was predeceased by nieces and nephews, Donald Smith, Polly Smith Nurney; Jim Minter, Frank “Buddy” Burleson, Ed Burleson and Judy Smith. She is survived by nieces and nephews and their spouses, Patsy and Charlie Christmas of Salisbury, Phyllis and Darrell Davis of Kernersville, Michael Smith of Concord, Debbie and Charlie Coxe of Concord, Phillip Smith of Allen, Texas, Ron and Carolyn Burleson of Knoxville, TN, Gloria Minter of Nashville, TN, Sandra and Eric Rawls of Vera Beach, FL, Anne Smith of Willow Springs, Ralph Smith of Fuquay Varina, Dr. Robert and Stevie Smith of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, October 9, 2017 at Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia.
